Whether it’s liked or not, in most countries as of now, everyone is advised to stay indoors, to avoid getting infected and to stop spreading the deadly Coronavirus. Most people may feel very uncomfortable spending the whole day and night locked up in their house. One of the best ways to help you get through is to use the lockdown period to share knowledge.
Most of the industries in this situation try to engage their staff in webinars and other activities to upgrade their knowledge. TWI India received such a request from M/s NTPC Limited (National Thermal Power Corporation Limited) to conduct an online webinar on the basics of Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) for their executive staff. When it comes to NDT, most industries nowadays are using advanced NDT methods for their inspection activities and NTPC Limited are also adopting advanced methods, especially PAUT for boiler components. Training on these advanced methods will be helpful to NTPC executives to upgrade their knowledge for use in their jobs.
TWI India had conducted various programmes in the past for M/s NTPC Limited personnel. This was yet another opportunity for TWI India to make use of the lockdown situation to conduct the above training through webinar sessions. Conducting such a webinar enabled NTPC executives and officers who work under different projects across the nation to participate.
Mr R J Pardikar, chief manager of NDT, and Mr Sathis Murugan, advanced NDT manager, took great efforts to conduct the webinar effectively. Four webinar sessions have been conducted to date, allowing for the training of 40 personnel. More sessions are likely to be conducted in the near future to train an additional 60 personnel. The sessions covered were; basic theory of PAUT, equipment familiarisation and setup preparation, data acquisition, analysis and procedure specification. The executives who attended were happy to have useful interaction with our NDT experts and get their knowledge shared.
This online learning would not be possible without Mr Manohar Krishna Asthana, general manager at M/s NTPC Limited, who gave TWI India a great opportunity once again to showcase our services effectively. TWI India takes this opportunity to thank M/s NTPC Limited for giving us an opportunity to be a part of this effort to upskill personnel and we wish them all success in their efforts. TWI India are also happy to conduct more programmes in future.
